Please read before embarking on the trail
______This heritage trail - which begins at Newmill (today the location of Wilkie Engineering) and ends at Newburgh Beach - is best navigated by vehicle.
For Stop 4 (Knockhall Castle), however, visitors are encouraged to walk to the castle from Waterside Bridge Car Park.Driving instructions
From Stop 3 (80 Main Street) follow A975 for the car park on the left at the Newburgh side of Waterside Bridge.

Walking instructions
It takes about 15 mins to walk from Waterside Car Park to Knockhall Castle. Access begins on the other side of the A975 on the footpath which runs along the Ythan and continues right through small woodland, up East Knockhall Road and right at the crossroads to the castle itself.

Location of headstone at Foveran Kirk
On entering the graveyard look to your left and it is midway along the roadside boundary wall. Being recently cleaned it stands out.

Location of James McBey panel at Newburgh Beach
To reach the high level viewpoint, on leaving the Beach Road car park take the gravel path towards the boardwalk. Walk 50 metres along the boardwalk and where it divides take the right hand boardwalk which climbs parallel to the golf course until you reach the high level viewpoint. The James McBey panel is located here.
